Problematization of Women’s psyche in
‘In American Brat’ by Bapsi Sidhwa and ‘Jasmin’ by Bharati Mukharjee.
Women, being the most suffered
section of the social circle is unfortunately the least expressed and noticed.
Their sufferings and troubles are of course double than the men in any society
endures. But, it is a bare reality that their efforts and struggles are taken
for granted and is considered that they are bound to suffer every miseries that
may come up in their lives. The fundamental objective of my dissertation is to
analyse the women’s psyche and innermost feelings and battles that women has
fought and won in all the ages.
In order to bring forth this objective,
I have taken the novels ‘An American Brat’ by Bapsi Sidhwa and Bharati
Mukharjee’s ‘Jasmin’. The two novels being diasporic fictious reflects the
problems of migration suffered. Bapsi Sidhwa has spoken about the problems that
a 16 year old girl has suffered where as ‘Jasmin’ deals with the struggles of
an elderly lady. My dissertation is thus an attempt to portray the resistance
of women of different ages.
